In fact there are not very many of them - Tandberg produced only 5 of CD players through the years:

- 3015A 14bit

- 3015A 16bit

- 3035A

- 4035/4025

Keeping in mind that, mission of buying and checking them all yourself doesn't look impossible 😎 

P.S. You can exclude 4035 from this list as it is the cheaper option of 4025 but being sold for the same money on the aftermarket

I may have to swallow my aversion to remote controls. Just in this case.

But, I have just bought a non-Tandberg CD player, due to the Tandberg CD's scarceness and that I wanted a CD with the TDA1541 DAC chip. So I bought a Grundig CD 8200. It is from 1987, I think (?). The design is great, very classic, old school. No remote πŸ˜€ Has IEC socket for cable so I bought a Wireworld Aurora Mini. It's performance is fantastic!
I paid about 120 euro for it. Just amazing that you can get such good performance for that money.

Also have a Grundig CD 5500, with the TDA1543. Lovely machine too. Different character, more funky, fatter, expressive and a bit exaggerated compared to the CD 8200, which is more balanced, neater, cleaner, restrained.

You really should audition the 4025 against say a 16-bit 3015A, both very good in their own ways. I have not heard the 3035A yet, though.

When use Tandberg TCP 4025 you cannot operate some functions without remote control:

- switch off/on display light

- switch on/off digital out etc.

Β All programming mode functions are possible only from remote control

But, I've been thinking about it and I just don't understand why so many people today want and use remote controls?
When I listen to gear reviews, I mean videos from my favourite reviewers, they talk about what I call remo cons and how necessary they are. Some others reviews of, I think it was the Decware tube amp for example, said it has no remo con. Like if that was a problem, and it seems many think it is..?

I think NOT having a remo con is a plus. Like when I bought a used CD player, I was glad that the remo con was gone (also means lower price). When I bought the Hegel DAC I was like "oh no it comes with a remo con", another thing that may get lost, maybe you even must have it for some functions..

Why do I hate remo cons?
1) They get lost.
2) They are ugly and just how ugly isn't a sofa table full of cheap black plastic remo cons?
3) Some modern gear have cheaped out on buttons on the gear and you must use the plastic little remo con for accessing some functions.
4) Real gear have real knobs. Using the knobs on well built gear is a pleasure!
5) You get lazy.
6) You get the urge to tweak volume and skip tracks. Just sit down and relax, take it easy, don't skip tracks, chose an album and a volume level and leave it alone!

In conclusion, another thing I love with Tandberg gear is (and most vintage gear), you guessed it - no remo cons!
Do yourself a favour, if you have a remo con lying around, put it away.
