Tonight I am listening to the TR-2080 on the big Seas Kit 60 (Tonola T60) and Loudness is on. It's fat and punchy, tonight I'm in the mood for shaking the walls. The TR-20xx series Loudness it maybe a bit less pumped up than the earlier versions.. 🤨 🤔

For the most part I listen low to medium, and it sounds good with the bass and treble near full with the loudness off. Once i get near the 12 o clock though, I have to reduce the bass in order not to topple anything at the upstairs neighbours place. And I'm on 2510 and fasett, not the 50 liter monsters.

In my case it depends on the volume level. As you know the loudness is connected to the volume potentiometer and automatically 'switch off' at the +/- 25% of the max volume. In case I use the very low volume and would like to have a very rich sound - I use it, during the party time - I switch it off ( or it's done automatically : )

When testing this on a 1040 through a pair of Castle Severn 2 speakers it was so deep that it rattled the glass in the windows and doors - an incredible, useable response from a 40watt unit when it was compared to a large 150 watt sony amp..........my neighbours probably don't agree.

I have been thinking about the Loudness buttons lately. I used to always use them. However lately I have been tending to leave them off. In particular on my Huldra 10 (which is playing right now, with Loudness off) and my TR-1000. These are so fat sounding anyway even without Loudness. It may be a matter of speaker combining also, my Huldra 10 is playing through my newly renovated TL-5010's which are surprisingly bass heavy, it becomes a bit too much with Loudness sometimes.
Maybe also depending on room accoustics..?
It may also depend on the source, with the new Hegel HD25 DAC, which almost seems to boost low frequencies with a couple of dB I feel like leaving it off. Sometimes though, I miss the "meatiness" and and more forward sound with Loudness activated.

How do you use the Loudness button?
