First post on this forum. Thanks for letting me in.

I like those Tandberg TR-200. Nice and small in format and very good bass presentation. Enough power for (my) home use.

Maybe I'm just the unlucky buyer. I bought this receiver a while back, tested it and replaced few lamps and put it on the shelf.

A few weeks ago I took it in use as main amp and it sounded/sounds just splendid with a TD-124 turntable and Mirsch OM 3-28 as main speakers and a pair of QLN ONE as satellites.

Then yesterday I noticed that the Right channel sounded much weaker than Left. To compensate I now have to turn the balance from 12 o'clock to past 3 o'clock. (Max Right is about 4 o'clock.)

(My former TR-200 I had a few years ago showed similar behaviour, but if I recall correctly, on that one one channel died completely after a few weeks use.)

What is it about old Tandbergs being woken from years and years of attic sleep?

Anyone got a clue where to start troubleshooting?

I am replacing the filter caps on an Tandberg 1040. The old caps have "plain negative" written on them, with one pin marked with red color. I assumed this would mean that the red pin was positive and the other (unmarked pin) was supposed to be negative. I was a bit uncertain however, so I looked in the service manaul. To my surprise it indicated the opposite when I checked how the caps were soldered to the board: the red pin seemed to be the negative and the unmarked pin was positive.

I then found this blog which states that the manual shows the wrong polarity for the caps. https://tandbergista.home.blog/tr-1040/

Just wanted to double-check here before I put the new caps in, as it can become quite the mess if I put them in the wrong way... Am I reading the polarity wrong on the existing caps or is the service manual in fact wrong? My guess is the latter, but better safe than sorry :)

Hi there,

Has anyone successfully removed the power button from a 1010 for cleaning without removing the circuit board from the chassis?

I've removed and cleaned out all of the other buttons, but I can't get the second plate moved to the left far enough to allow the power button to spring out.....if that makes sense? It doesn't seem to operate the same as say the independent button for tape monitor which is removed easily.

I've managed to get liquid deoxit in to the switch by dripping it though the hole in the top and into the back of it. But this 1010 still cracks and distorts when twitched on.

I've tried and failed to remove this button on a few machines and I'm beginning to think it's not supposed to be removed insitu.

If anyone has had any experience or success with this can you please let me know.

Best regards
